I installed Cygwin (http://cygwin.com/) on my laptop (win2000). It's really cool. You have all the powerfull Unix commands and development tools on you windows machine. There are the simple and usefull things : grep, find, | , less, diff, tar, man, vi (I hate vi)... but also some development environment : PostgreSQL, perl, python, gcc, cvs, ... As a developper, you should have it.
